Up until 2007, we have experienced the power and maintenance of Windows XP or the latest Mac. I know I’ve heard about Microsoft making a multi-touch tablet PC of their own, but I don’t think that they’ve actually come out with another other than Vista upgrades. Anyways, this JazzMutant just allows the basic user settings for a Multi-touch tablet. Check it out.

I know I would love to have one of these just to mess around on… wouldnt you?

Gmail Notifier

August 14, 2007

Are you a avid Gmail user and need to check you’re Gmail account numerous times? Well, If you are, then using the Gmail Notifier is proficiently the best XP/VISTA user tool you can find. All it does is keeps a system tray of the Gmail Logo, and when that logo is highlighted in blue, then you have mail, if its white as usual, than you dont have mail. The best part of this little gadget is that its a low profile ram user. It hardly uses any ram and efficiently finishes the task.

DVD Shrink

August 7, 2007

DVD Shrink is yet another DVD ripper freeware program from Microsoft Windows. The program presents backing up(also known as “saving on disk”) DVD movie features as well as the dual layer option. When used with DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink becomes the main .iso (DVD) image creator.

The dual layer option is a very intensified preference in DVD Shrink itself. When DVD Decryptor rips the DVD onto file as an .iso image file. DVD Shrink can open that same iso image file. The only problem with DVD Decryptor is that it saves all DVD iso images as a single layered iso image which accumulates to be around 8.5 GB. DVD Shrink lets the user convert the single layered iso image into a dual layered iso image saving space (accumulating to around 4.7 GB) This lets the user burn DVDs (using DVD Decryptor) on one single DVD rather than two.

I love this option for DVD Shrink because I dont want to be burning 2 DVDs just to save a single DVD movie on disc. I found out about this software through a friend, he told me that DVD Shrink lets the user re-author the DVD content from a DVD. Even though I never had that much interests in re-authoring, I found it to be a useful tool for DVD authors.

Unfortunately, DVD Shrink will not rip all DVDs because it doesnt use brute force programming to rip through DVDs. I advise that DVD Shrink only be used as the 2nd side program in DVD reproduction.

Avant Browser

August 7, 2007

So, here I was one day looking up option details for Chimera Virtual Desktop and somewhere within the search pages, I found a new browser that I hadn’t heard of before. It was called the Avant Browser. On download.com, Avant Browsers was ranked the most popular with 125,492 downloads. I had to check it out, my curiosity led me to find that the Avant Browser was similar to the Firefox browser as well as the Internet Explorer Browser, but unlike Firefox and the Internet Browser, Avant Browser saved all of the user’s bookmarks, configurations, settings, web passwords, and favorites all on the user’s online profile storage.

I thought that this was pretty neat because I’ve always wanted to access my favorite bookmarks when I was not at home. Unfortunately, I found out that in order for the user to access all the online profile storage, there had to be the Avant Browser program stored on the computer elsewhere. That means, if I went over to a friends house and he didnt have the Avant Browser, then I couldn’t access my bookmarks or favorites or anything else.

However, I did continue to meddle with the Avant Browser and found it to be very sleek in design (almost like Firefox) but same in content and a little slower search speed.  I still continue using Avant Browser because it is basically an Internet Explore Browser with extra add-on features(similar to those of Firefox).

DVD Decryptor

August 7, 2007

DVD Decryptor is a program that essentially rips DVDs from the DVD-Video structure and saves it to users computer. It lets the user choose whether to save it in .iso (image) format or the Video file format (VOB). This powerful utility allows for the user to rip virtually any DVD in existence. It uses brute force programming to get rid of the RCE Protection, and user operation prohibition.

This program is basically a side-program to use when reproducing DVDs. It works magnificently when used with DVD Shrink. DVD Decryptor used to be a freeware and easy to find on the web, but now its gotten a little harder. When I say a little harder, I mean excessively harder. DVD Decryptor is not only a DVD ripping software, it is also a DVD Burning software. It enables for the user to burn and image file the user chooses.

Chimera Virtual Desktop

August 7, 2007

Unlike all of the windows operating systems, Linux is capable of having more than one virtual desktop. This come in handy when you dont want too many things running into each other, or if you want to hide stuff from your parents (which even I’m guilty of, lol). There are many programs that allow the user to switch from desktop to desktop for windows as well. Some of them include:

  • Chimera Virtual Desktop
  • VirtuaWin
  • Stardock Virtual Desktop

Chimera Virtual Desktop is extraordinarily simple and complex at the same time. There are many options that lets the user determine his/her preference, but in a user friendly way. Chimera Virtual Desktop lets the user switch from desktop to desktop with easy-to-use shortcut keys or by mouse ,again, its up to the user preference. The best thing I like about this software is that each desktop is allowed to have its own password protected lock for privacy. Here are a few screen shots at what the application looks like on a normal XP OS:

screenshot001.jpg

The bottom left part of the screen shows that the user is allowed to have 4 desktops. Chimera Virtual Desktop actually allows the user to have a maximum of 9 virtual desktops. I like Chimera Virtual Desktop because it increases my environmental use of my XP operating system with many different options.

The screen image shows that Chimera Virtual Desktop allows for many different settings customized for the user’s preference. Chimera Virtual Desktop is actually not a freeware program, but if you know the right people, it can be, lol.  Leave a comment.
